The situation

What you cannot see from outside

When a country spends years in difficulty it stops making the news. Scarcity turns into routine, and routine is not news. This is what the team keeps finding every time it goes down to a community.

This is not a single disaster but a long grind. There are families who solve the day and not the week, and that is the problem well aimed material aid can actually attack.

Three things that keep repeating

Water does not arrive every day

Where supply is intermittent everything else gets harder. Cooking, hygiene and health all depend on stored water, and storing it badly makes people ill.

Price matters more than scarcity

Often the product is on the shelf. What is missing is the money to buy it, so bringing the shopping already done solves more than handing out cash.

The further out, the dearer

Remote areas pay for transport in the price of everything. That is why the team buys in volume and delivers, rather than handing out vouchers.

The figures on this site are examples while the organisation finishes gathering its own data. We would rather have few and verifiable than many and borrowed.

Something concrete can be done.

One round of shopping bought and delivered solves more than any explanation.
